Tradition, Spirit And Honor

Before each Cougar football game throughout the season (both home and on the road) Bronco, his wife and various members of the team participate in friday evening hour long firesides. Those events actually originated with Lavell Edwards years ago. Coach Mendenhall strongly returned to its roots, rich tradition, spirit and honor when on 7 Oct 2005 he re-instituted the devotionals. Bronco said "football is only the vehicle to deliver a message of more importance and substance". Apparently only a small handful of individuals showed up back then. Now I've heard from the one held back in the state of Washington had over roughly a thousand in the church. Whenever and wherever the team plays it is now standing room only. Coach Mendenhall further states "Discipleship is a lifelong journey. Being a disciple of Christ should influence every aspect of our life, every day, month and year of our life". A good portion of those firesides are organized by the same stripling warriors each of us see on saturdays making those blocks and catches those passes over the middle. With a combination of wisdom, wit, music and musical numbers the firesides are without question an example and reminder of the things that truly are important. If you get even a remote chance to go by all means do not hesitate. The next one will be this friday at the American Fork Tabernacle 7PM (110 E Main St). The full fireside schedule can be obtained through visiting the official site for further and complete authorized information. Regardless of what religion you might be if you plan on attending it would be humbly respectfully requested with sunday attire appropriate, arrive plenty early, no tape/video recording and to remember the House you are in. You will have an experience, opportunity and priviledge of a lifetime.
